Just a few days ago, Days of Wonder started teasing a Star Wars-themed version of Richard Borg‘s Memoir ’44 ā€” or more generally, a Star Wars-themed version of Borg’s Commands & Colors game system.

And now it’s officially announced the game: Battle of Hoth, with this being a 2-4 player game from Borg and Adrien Martinot, who has worked for Days of Wonder since 2008 and is currently the company’s game line manager.

Here’s an overview of the game, which has a retail release of August 29, 2025:

Battle of Hoth is a game of heroic and fast-paced battles of miniatures that’s set on the ice planet Hoth and reenacts one of the most famous scenes of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

Using the popular Commands & Colors game system, players take turns choosing command cards each turn to activate units and decide how to move and attack, across seventeen scenarios included in the box.

For a deeper gaming experience, players have the option to add leader cards to their battle for support from six iconic Star Wars characters, or they try the two multi-scenario campaigns in which successes and failures shape the next battles.

I met with Adrien Martinot at SPIEL Essen 24 and had the chance to play one of the scenarios, which felt like a classic Memoir ’44 experience in terms of gameplay, but with new features thanks to the AT-ATs and the stationary Rebel bases that you must defend carefully in order to protect your generators on the back line…should you be the Rebels, that is. That was only one of the scenarios, of course, and I had no chance of winning against the far more experienced co-designer of the game.
