This has stuck with me for decades. I had misremembered it a coming from Shadowrun for some reason. Seemed a bit far fetched back in the 90’s, but as I’ve grown up and watched the world around us, it isn’t that crazy.

It’s still pretty far fetched. The system won’t pay to support anyone just for their vote when it’s cheaper and easier to just end elections, or turn them into shams where your votes don’t affect the outcome. We’re almost there now in the US, and other nations have been that way for a very long time.
