Ask Ms. Meeple: Gamers, Come Out to Play-ayyyy! | BoardGameGeek News

Here is the discussion for this week:
But I’m wondering if you have any ideas for finding a dedicated game group in the area. I’m in south Seattle, and I know there are probably a million groups around here, but I just have a hard time finding one and don’t really know where to start.
Have you tried Meetup or Aftergame?
Search for board game conventions in your area as well. There is an annual convention in Seattle called OrcaCon. There may even be more; search for “board game convention Seattle” and see what comes up. I attended OrcaCon in January 2025 and had a good time. I really liked the hotel as well: not too expensive (at least compared to Los Angeles prices!) and well decorated. I think I’ve found nearly every board gamer person I game with from conventions as they are great places to meet other board gamers.
Meetup is good, too, noting that as mentioned in a previous column sometimes people can be already committed before you get there, so be sure to arrive early.
Of course when you engage with these activities, be sure to be positive and well groomed!
Best,
Ms. Meeple (Jennifer Schlickbernd)
P.S. If there’s a situation in your board game group or at a meetup that you would like advice on, please send me a Geekmail with “Ms. Meeple” in the title.
