Hopeful

Vyv, Hopeful Dragonkin (A to Z, V)

vyv,-hopeful-dragonkin-(a-to-z,-v)

Description: Vyv is a small draconic humanoid with a tail.Ā  Notable in that their scales that are a pleasant pale indigo shade, while their eyes are a brilliant violet, naturally, being a dragonkin, they have no hair.Ā  Vyv dresses as best they can, the fancier the better, but always with shoes with seriously high soles (between six and eight inches/ fifteen to twenty centimeters) in which Vyv is an expert in wearing having practiced since their youth.Ā  While Vyv loves jewelry, they cannot (yet!) afford much beyond costume jewelry.

Vyv is a curious being, in all senses of the world, and is out in the world seeking to learn, gain power and (hopefully) one day ascend to become an actual dragon.Ā  So, there is nowhere that they are not willing to travel in order to locate the knowledge and magic to do such.Ā  Vyv is relentlessly upbeat and optimistic, though there is a practical core to the dragonkin which is not immediately obvious.

Background: Vyv was hatched among a tribe of lesser dragonkin (sometimes called the least dragonborn or upstart lizards if you are feeling rude) on the far edge of the Sea of Stars that had been taken under the (metaphorical) wing of a powerful sorcerer who sought to help them advance.Ā  Ā Vyv was an exceptional and favored student and encouraged to go off on their own once they had mastered their abilities and lessons.

Vyv was happy to head off to explore the world which was filled with wonders and magics that far exceeded those available at home.Ā  Though it has not been all rainbows and candies for the adventurous dragonkin.

Presenting this Character: Vyv has a tendency to suddenly appear with questions.Ā  They are polite but insistent (ā€œYou do not learn by not asking questionsā€) but they are persistent.Ā  Vyv is insatiably curious, extremely optimistic, and almost always upbeat about the situation.

Vyv does not have a very clear understanding about a lot of non-dragonkin society, their home society is very idiosyncratic and communitarian.Ā  Other political and economic systems remain a bit confusing, though they were taught about trade and such and they do best not to cause more trouble.Ā  Vyv is slowly becoming more comfortable with the ways of the others.

What can they do?:Ā  Vyv is a natural user of magic, able to call it to their hands just by the force of their will.Ā  While not able to do a wide variety of magic effects, the ones they have mastered are effective, creating whips of lightning, magical armor to protect themself and more.

Vyv has a natural and intuitive understanding magic, which is helpful at overcoming other magic challenges but they have trouble expressing to others what they intuit beyond the basics (ā€œDo not touch!Ā  The magic will bite you!ā€ ).

Who might know them and why: You may have crossed paths Vyv if you have visited a site of magical power.Ā  Ā Odds are you will remember them if you have seen them and even more so if you have interacted with them.

Vyv, when they need money, is willing to work just about any job.Ā  So you may have met them as a serving person, shoeshiner, or other of a dozens of other tasks.

Notes: Lesser Dragonkin are an analog to kobolds, more or less, however, the true dragons do not much care for them, which is why those that have survived have ended up in the far edges of the Sea of Stars.Ā  The few communities out there have been slowly rebuilding and are now expanding their numbers and holdings but they are one of the more minor races and unknown to most as they are rarely seen in the interior.

Based on my Pathfinder character of the same name, sadly, the campaign they were in long since collapsed, never to be returned to.Ā  I loved Vyv’s tall shoes and outgoing personality.Ā  Their sex was never determined and did not particularly matter, so I leave it in the original quantum state.
